The Doctor of Philosophy program requires 60 semester hours. An applicant is eligible for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy program by meeting one of the following criteria. Admission Requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy Program:
Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies
Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Counseling
Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Counseling
1. An earned Bachelor or Master in the field of study; or
2. An earned Bachelor or Master in another field of study if the Seminary’s evaluation indicates the applicant has the necessary foundation and/or experience to succeed in the program.
Applicants admitted under Criterion 1, “an earned Bachelor or Master in the field of study” will be admitted directly into the Doctor of Philosophy program of choice. The academic advisor and learner will formulate a plan identifying the graduate courses required for the degree. This serves as the initial learning agreement, which may be amended later by mutual consent. After both parties accept the Plan, the learner is assigned a faculty mentor and begins the first course(s) selected.
Learners admitted under Criterion 2, “an earned Bachelor or Master diploma not in the field of study”, may be required to take additional undergraduate or graduate course(s) in order to better prepare for the master course work. the learner and academic advisor will develop a plan clearly specifying what undergraduate courses may be required and identifying the graduate courses required for the degree. This serves as the initial learning agreement, which may be amended later by mutual consent. After both parties accept the Plan, the learner is assigned a faculty mentor and begins the first course(s) selected.
Bethel may accept up to 28 graduate semester hours in transfer with a minimum grade of “B”. A candidate of the Ph.D. program must be continuously enrolled and must maintain satisfactory academic progress through the dissertation preparation and acceptance process.
